Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a small, little town that is a bit sleepy. The West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar with its meaning. They often believe it's an island to the that lies west of Montreal however the West Island encompasses everything between the two cities that are Lachine as well as West. Amanda Brugel was born there and her time in the city wasn't long. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa Ontario. The first goal she had was to become a dancer, however a rapid growth rate resulted in her outgrowing the dancers she was with. She admitted in an article published by the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall when wearing heels. After I outgrew the male partners, I quit. A lot of former dancers go on to act. For Brugel, it was the encouragement from her drama teacher in high school who pushed her in the direction she wanted. The teacher recommended that she take part in an audition for the annual school play. The teacher who suggested that she pursue a part the annual school production. The show was granted the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to take part in York University's Theater Program and graduated from the program in 2000, earning a Bachelor's of Fine Arts. Her career spans twenty years, and she's performed in more than 60 shows, both on big screens and on smaller ones. The most well-known role she played was that of Rita (pictured in the below photo) on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the only Canadian actor on the show in the season 1 and was only seen on occasion.
